ABOUT OUR CLUB:

We are a local club near High Springs and between Gainesville and Lake City areas.

We welcome all ages and breeds of horses, yes we do have several gaited horses in the club too. We are Friends riding our favorite horse on trails of Oleno/River Rise state Preserve in High Springs, San Felasco Hammock State Preserve trails off 441 in Alachua, Mattair Springs in Suwannee Water Management area in Live Oak, Big Shoals State Park in White Springs, Goethe State Forest, Black Prong wildlife management area in Dunnellon. Walaka State Forest near Crescent City. In these we try to plan so fun with Campouts, cookouts, and full moon rides. Email for directions and times or questions.

Winter ride time is 10:30 – spring and summer 9:30

A Bimonthly Newsletter is sent out regularly to members or via email to keep everyone posted to rides and meeting discussions, ride news and sales items.

  • Parades:  2009 City of High Springs parade begins at 6:00 PM staging begins at 4:30pm - this year's theme is the Flowers of High Springs.

Tips – on your horse while riding, carry your Coggins, cell phone, your halter and lead rope because accidents do happen.

Payment and Rules for Riding Florida State Parks

Oleno/ River Rise and Florida State parks are payment by entry. From the Ranger Station located on 41/441 North of High Springs at the State Park Ranger Station. Cost is – $6.42 per person for a day ride. Horse Camping (primitive) is $4.36 per person for a total of $10.78 day/overnight. With the exception of buying a Individual Park Permit Pass for $42.80 . This covers one person and one horse for a year to the end of the month date of purchase. The Family Pass Park Permit costs $85.20 and this covers one truck and up to 8 family members with its occupied trailer. If you buy this permit to use the trails you need to call into the ranger station (Oleno 386-454-1853 you give them your permit number over the phone and number of persons riding and they look up your number to verify. They will give you the gate combination to enter River Rise Trails over the phone . Please call in because this helps the parks keep a count of the facility being used and can better help us know its being utilized for improvements.

Directions to River Rise from the ranger station: When leaving the Park Drive take a left. At the stop sign at 41/441 take a left again. Go about 2 miles to Co. Rd. 778 and turn Right. Go to the end of the road, about 2 ½ miles to the stop sign, turning left on 27 Go about 5 miles the River Rise Horse Trails are on the left. If you cross the Santa Fe River you went to far. When you enter the gate, please lock the gate behind you; this is a safely issue. This is a first rate facility, with 20 horse stalls, first come first serve, a horse wash station, public restroom with shower. Water for you horses, Plenty of parking. Nice trails even in the summer. No pets allowed park closed at sunset. It is up to you to make payments or call in before you come to the rides and meetings. You Must keep a up to date coggins on your horse in your pocket or saddle bag when riding in state parks. There are park patrols to check this. I keep a copy in my glove box in my truck and one in my saddle bag.

If going to San Felasco and Big Shoals State Park there is an Honor Box system – Payment is made at the payment box when entering, by the amount listed or by your entry permit number, then you pull out a blue envelope and enter your pass number on the envelope and put it in the pay box. San Felasco has no water, so bring your own for horses. A pavillion is being built, with public restrooms. There are some great trails with a diversity of hills and water to cross. Big Shoals is primitive.

State Water Management Areas, National Forest and State Forest for riding – Most only have a trailhead with limited parking, no water, or facilitys so come prepared with your food , water and hay and water for your horse and any emergency attire you make need. Some of the trails are Mattair Springs, Holton Creek , Little River, Osceola National Forest, Goethe Track.

We would like to get going in attending local parades..., DO I HERE A YEA ON THIS ONE? We need a parade committee to get the dates and information. There are parades in Lake City – Olustee, High Springs, and Alachua .

  • Current Certified copies of Coggins Test are required for all horses in all Florida State Forests.
  • Stay on marked trails to avoid trampling sensitive vegetation.
  • For safety, keep horses at a good distance between each other when riding in groups.
  • Bring plenty of drinking water for horse and rider.
  • All riders should be aware of what is going on around them at all times.
  • Be courteous to hikers, bicyclists, and hunters when they are met in the woods.
  • Wear ribbons in the tails of horses for stallions (yellow), biters (blue), and kickers (red).
  • Take your time and enjoy the beauty of our State Forests.
